YOU AND YOUR BUS
The Warrick County School Corporation has:
1. Carefully selected drivers who have an interest in young people.
2. Provided the drivers with the best of training in order to insure your safety.
3. Provided you with a clean bus which is maintained in the best possible mechanical condition.
4. Equipped all buses with two-way radios in order to better deal with emergency situations.
5. Equipped all buses with video monitor capabilities.
Home to the Bus Stop
1. Be on time. Remember the driver has a very strict schedule to follow. Plan to be at your pick-up point five (5) minutes before the bus is to arrive. The driver and your fellow students cannot wait if you fail to be at the pick-up point when the bus arrives.
2. Be alert when walking to your stop. Watch for cars, when crossing the street.
3. Stay out of the street when at your stop.
4. Stand back from the edge of the road as the bus approaches your stop.
5. Avoid walking across or standing in your neighbor's yard when going to or waiting for your bus.
6, Don't push and shove at the stop. Permit the small children to board first.
On the Bus
1. The bus is an extension of the classroom. Practice the good manners you display while at school and at home, when on the bus.
2. As a school bus rider you should understand the following rules have been developed with your safety in mind:
a. Follow the driver's direction the first time they are given.
b. Move very quickly to your seat.
c Remain seated at all times while on the bus.
d. Never lower the windows unless the driver gives permission.
e. Keep head, hands, and feet inside bus and to yourself.
f. Never extend you arm out the bus window.
g. Never throw objects from the bus.
h. Help the driver keep the bus clean by not eating or drinking on the bus.
i. No swearing, cursing or loud talking.
j. No cell phones to be used on the bus.
k.No laser pointers allowed on the bus.
l. When you are required to take large science projects, musical instruments or other things which take a great deal of space to school; attempt to have someone take you to school.
m. Your safety is very important to the bus driver. Help him/her by being respectful, courteous at all times. Excellent behavior on your part permits the driver to give full attention to driving safely.
n. Don't leave your seat until the bus stopped moving.
o. Leave the bus quickly. Help the small children down the steps when you can. DON'T PUSH.
p. Don't walk between buses. Leave the unloading area as quickly as possible.
School to Home
1. Leave your last class promptly so that you can be on your bus by the time it is scheduled to leave.
2. Board the bus quickly. Remember to let the small children board first.
3.Stay in your seat until the bus reaches your stop.
4. If you must cross the road, wait until the bus driver signals you that no car is coming.
To the Parent
1. Please review the bus safety rules with your child.
2. Emphasize that the school and home are working together to insure their safety.
3. Remember that riding the bus is a privilege and like all privileges they may be lost.
4. Contact the Pupil Transportation Office if you have any question or suggestions regarding the operation.
