Student Council
The J.H. Castle Student Council is a select group of students whose purpose shall be service, spirit, and student leadership. In order to keep the Student Council the prestigious body we desire it to be, it is necessary to adhere to strict standards of student behavior and achievement. Student Council is a commitment of time and effort both during the school day and sometimes outside of the school day.
The following standards must be met in order to participate in the student council.
1. To participate in student council elections a student must have a petition signed by 10 eligible voters (from his/her class) and a signed parental permission form turned in to his/her homeroom teacher.
2. Student Council members are elected by the fifth and sixth grade student body. Each class will elect two representatives and one alternate. This will make a total of 18 representatives and 9 alternates for the entire Student Council.
3. If a student has two unexcused absences from meetings (held once or twice a month during recess) or other Student Council activities, he/she shall be excused from their position on the council and replaced by the alternate for their class.
4. If a student representative fails to fulfill his/her responsibilities to student council or has been less than satisfactory conduct at meetings or student council activities, the sponsor will speak to the student. If the student continues to have problems he/she will be placed on probation. If the student has additional behavior problems during probation, he/she will be dismissed from student council.
5. The members shall maintain a C- or above grade in all subjects and an S in conduct. A grade lower than C- or an S in conduct shall put the student on probation for one grading period. If the student earns two consecutive grades lower than a C- or a second consecutive N in conduct, that student will be dismissed from the student council. No student will be allowed to participate in student council if that student receives and N or a U in conduct.
6. The members will remain demerit free. If the member receives a demerit, the member will be dismissed and replaced by the alternate for their class.
7. Each student may have only one probation per year, after which the student will be dismissed from the student council.
Student council presents an opportunity to learn parliamentary procedure, be part of a decision making body, and provide service to J.H. Castle Elementary and its students. Thank you for your cooperation and support of the J.H. Castle Student Council.
