Minutes

Lee Ann Roeder read the December minutes. Bonnie Ciuffetelli moved to approve the minutes; Jennifer Potter seconded; motion was approved.

Treasurer’s Report

Dawn passed out an income statement (attached). $4,000 shown in the AR Books/Tests category includes books Mrs. Gilles ordered for the library. Deb Titzer moved to approve the report; Linda Johnson seconded; motion was approved.

Principal’s Report

Mr. Krodel said they are planning the next AR party; a luau-themed event. The party will include first grade students. They anticipate 650-675 students. Stations will be in the cafeteria and gym. The date is Feb. 20. Volunteers are needed. Mrs. Scales complimented Mr. Krodel on planning the AR parties and keeping the budget down. They are considering having sponsors for the AR parties because of the number of students who qualify. Mrs. Scales said the spring picture money (usually about $1,200) is used for these parties but as our number of qualifying students has grown our expenses have grown.

Mrs. Scales thanked the PTO for sponsoring the Young Authors program March 4. Mrs. Salpietra will have a book swap the same night as the program. Students can bring their used books in and trade them for others. Books can be brought in the last week in February.

Committee Reports

  • Birthday Book Club—Jennifer Potter said thank yous have been sent out to teachers for contributing ideas for book selections. The next list will be out in about a week (Feb/Mar/Apr).
  • Book Fair—No report.
  • Family Carnival—Bonnie said Lori held a planning meeting recently and the carnival will be April 18, 5:30-8:30 p.m. They need a few subcommittee chairs still (admissions, games and food). The April newsletter will feature all carnival information and will come out as soon as we return from spring break.
  • Field Day—No report.
  • Fund Raising— Kindra Hirt said she has a deposit of $465 today from the fund-raising blitz. Betsy said we’re up to $7,000 which will enable us to get a nice set of bleachers for the track. Michele Brookman said the bleachers get installed first, then the concrete will be poured (we have parents who have said they will donate concrete).
  • Helping Hands—No report.
  • Hospitality—Tiffany said she will be calling volunteers for the D.A.R.E. graduation. A date needs to be selected.
  • Landscape—Tara Moore said the spring cleanup day will be April 5. Kohl’s will donate $500 toward our landscaping for the large courtyard and will send out some volunteers as well. • Library— Michele Brookman said Mrs. Gilles says all is going fine.
  • Market Day— Carol Mesker said the February pick-up is Thursday. Last month we earned $344.98; we’ve made over $3,000 to date. Next month is March Bonus Days; they’ll offer lunch items. We will pair with the junior high for this sale again.
  • Popcorn—Marcy Schmitt said new supplies were purchased. Not as many children have been ordering lately (about 280 students as opposed to 350 or more). We may need new plastic tubs to carry the popcorn in.
  • Publications— Lee Ann Roeder said today is the newsletter deadline.
  • Room Parent—Bonnie said the spring party is March 20 (a Thursday due to the snow make-up day on the following Friday; if we should be in school that day the party still will be Thursday).

  • Student Incentives— Kindra Hirt said Mr. Krodel’s report covered everything.
