| Castle Elementary PTO
General Meeting
March 2, 2009
President Jamie Madeline called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m. She announced that the first piece of playground equipment purchased by the PTO has been installed and the kids should be able to play on it today. We are going to be doing the School Kidz supply kits again this year. Francie Renschler will be coordinating that project. Kindergarten round-up will be held on April 2. Volunteers are needed to help that day. Breakfast with Brad was held at Chandler Elementary School. Mr. Schneider discussed textbook adoptions and reported that Castle South Middle School is on schedule and Castle North renovations will begin soon. Renovations are Castle High School is ahead of schedule.
Minutes:
The December minutes were emailed and passed out by Carol Mesker. Deb Titzer moved to accept the minutes as presented; Bonnie Ciuffetelli seconded; motion approved.
Treasurer’s report:
Dawn Bratton provided a financial statement (attached). Kathi Wilson moved to approve the report; Michele Brookman seconded; motion approved.
VP of Funded programs-
Bonnie Ciuffetelli did not have a report.
VP of School Activities-
Michele Brookman did not have a report.
VP of Special Events-
Deb Titzer said she asked head room parents for any party ideas and will update the party idea binder.
Principal’s report:
Mrs. Scales said ISTEP will begin tomorrow. We will be having a Young Authors night/Book Swap Tuesday night. All are welcome to attend. The school corporation is busy planning for next year especially for staffing the new middle school.
Committee Reports :
- Birthday Book Club- Jennifer Potter said they had 22 people join the BBC and the books are in the library. Betsy should be getting them out this week. The next invitation will be going out next week.
- Community Donations- Amy Pollard had sent out a letter to businesses asking for donations for Carnival. She did not get a lot of response. She will be doing it again.
- Community Service- No report.
- Family Carnival- Amy Pollard will be visiting businesses to see of they can donate for the Carnival. Susan Randell has taken care of the food. Games and baskets are going good. There will be Spirit Week the week of the Carnival. Students who dress up will be eligible for tickets to redeem at the Carnival.
- Field Day- Mrs. Scales said to keep the date the same even if the school year is extended due to days missed for snow.
- Fund Raising-Shannon Backer sent several books with items tabbed for our next piece of equipment that we would like to purchase. She would like to have a meeting to try to narrow down the ideas. The focus will be on a piece of fitness equipment. The PTO would like to have 2 or 3 pieces selected that the students could then vote on.
- Hospitality- Tiffany Porter will be working on DARE graduation and will need volunteers to help.
- Landscape- Tara Moore had some dates for a clean up day. March 21-22(spring break) and April 18-19(carnival). Jamie will discuss alternate dates for clean up. It was suggested that the Scouts help out. Michelle Brookman will coordinate with Tara.
- Library-Melissa Edris said everything is going fine. There are times when we do have a shortage of helpers and Jamie has been sending out email asking for help when that happens.
- Market Day-Michelle Standridge said we did not meet our goal for the Barnes and Noble gift card. Our profit was $205. March 12 will be the pick up date next month. The school calendar has the wrong date on it.
- Popcorn-Jamie reported that Marci Schmitt said we will be going to Flavor Ice after Spring Break.
- Special Rewards-Kathi Wilson said Winter Box Top collection brought in 18,460 box tops. The winners by grade level were as follows K- Rust AM, 1- McAtee, 2- Webb, 3- Paul, 4- Reff, 5- Mattingly, 6- Chrisco. These classes will be receiving a cotton candy party. For the Schnucks e-script our totals sales for October- end of January was $34,404.38. We will be receiving a check from Schnucks for $419.
- Spirit Wear- Carol Mesker said there are t-shirts still available for purchase.
- Student Incentives/AR parties-No report.
- 6 th Grade Events- The inflatables have been reserved. They will need volunteers that day.

New Business
The nominating committee for next years PTO board will consist of Carol Mesker, Melissa Edris and Michelle Standridge. If anyone is interested in a position on the board or committee please contact Jamie Madeline and she will pass your name along to the nominating committee. The PTO would like to take a survey next year to see if we still want to do a donation campaign or would like to do a catalogue sale for fundraising.
