Castle Elementary PTO Meeting
May 4, 2009

President Jamie Madeline called the meeting to order at 9:07 a.m. She thanked everyone for all they have done this year. This will be Jamie's last year as president. Francie Renschler is doing School Kidz kits. Orders are due by Friday. They will be delivered the week of August 3. We will need help August 3-7 for pick up of the kits. We will have a work day Wednesday May 20 at 9AM to clean out the work room closet.
Minutes:
The minutes were emailed and passed out by Carol Mesker. Amy Pollard moved to accept the minutes as presented; Amy Bonke seconded; motion approved.

Treasurer's report:
Dawn Bratton provided a financial statement (attached). Kathi Wilson moved to approve the report; Deb Titzer seconded; motion approved.

VP of Funded programs-
Bonnie Ciuffetelli did not have a report.

VP of School Activities-
Michele Brookman did not have a report.

VP of Special Events-
Deb Titzer did not have a report.

Principal's report:
Mrs. Scales said they were finished with the third round of ISTEP testing for this year. There will be several staff member changes for next year. All 6th grade teachers will be going to the middle school. Mrs. Richmond, school nurse, will be moving to Oakdale. Mrs. Pryor will be principal at Yankeetown. Mr. Susott will be the new assistant principal. The school staff has been taking extra precautions to prevent the swine flu. Help will be needed at the beginning of the school year with folders and kindergarten students. She thanked everyone for all their help this year.

Committee Reports:

Birthday Book Club- Jennifer Potter said 26 new members were added. They had a goal of 60 new books and ended with 79 books. The students really liked the pictures of the BBC members in the library. Betsy has a list of books for next year.

Book Fair- No report.

Community Donations- No report.

Community Service- The mitten tree project was very successful. We were able to provide mittens, hats, gloves, etc. for the student council baskets and also send items to Sharon and Chandler schools. The next project will be for students to make Valentine cards to send to nursing homes.

Family Carnival- Lee Ann Roeder thanked everyone who helped. They will be a report in the binder or Lee Ann will email if needed. The net income was reported by Dawn Bratton as $11,000.

Field Day- Amy Pollard passed a sign up sheet for volunteers. She will need 16 volunteers for each grade. She would also like someone to be able to stay all day to help. She said they will come in under budget.

Fund Raising-The new piece of playground equipment cost would be $14,456. It is a fitness piece and has lots of things for the kids to play on and will fit in the space set aside. After some discussion, Shannon Backer made a motion to purchase; Bonnie Ciuffetelli seconded. Motion passed. The company came to fix the X-Wave which had broken.

Hospitality- Tiffany has lots of things planned for this week.

Landscape- Kindergarten area has been mulched at no expense. Ron can get more mulch if needed. Mrs. Reff needs supplies for fish pond. Tara would like to have a clean up day May 16.

Library-No report.

Market Day-Amy Bonke said pick up will be Thursday. Last sale of the year will be June 4.

Popcorn-Marci Schmitt said it is going good.

Publications-No report.

Special Rewards-Kathi Wilson said we received a check from Box Tops for $1,840.85. We also received a check from Schnucks escript for $475.

Spirit Store-No report.

Spirit Wear- No report.

Student Incentives/AR parties-The last party will be May 22. The theme is Rock the Castle.

Sunshine- No report.

Web Site- No report.

6th Grade Events- The chairpersons are very organized. The t-shirt order form is due tomorrow and also includes items needed for the events.


Old Business
Marci Schmitt moved to accept the slate of officers; Francie Renschler seconded; motion passed. Officers for the 2009-2010 school year will be President, Bonnie Ciuffetelli; VP Funded Programs, Kathi Wilson; VP of School Activities, Michelle Brookman; VP of Special Events, Deb Titzer; Secretary, Carol Mesker; Treasurer, Dawn Bratton.
