Castle Elementary PTO Meeting

November 3, 2009

President Bonnie Ciuffetelli called the meeting to order at 9:07 AM. She announced that the new office and entry way furniture is in place. Student Council purchased a rug and will be getting accessories soon. She said our book fair was very successful. She attended Breakfast with Brad (summary from the meeting is attached). JH Castle will be hosting the breakfast on March 12. Bonnie also recognized our volunteer of the month, Jennifer Johnson. She has been a great volunteer with the spirit store, popcorn/flavor ice; change our playground, and other areas around the school.

Principal's report:
Mrs. Scales was not at the meeting. No report.
Minutes:
The minutes were emailed and passed out by Carol Mesker. Shannon Backer moved to accept the minutes as presented; Stephanie Parker seconded; motion approved.

Treasurer's report:
Dawn Bratton provided a financial statement (attached). Deb Titzer moved to approve the report; Michele Brookman seconded; motion approved. Dawn noted that our income shows $11,952 from book fair. That was the total sales. Profit should be around $1,000.

VP of Funded programs-
Kathi Wilson did not have a report.

VP of School Activities-
Michele Brookman did not have a report.

VP of Special Events-
Deb Titzer reported fall parties went well.

Committee Reports:

5th Grade Events- No report.

Birthday Book Club- No report.

Book Fair- Tiffany Bonnell said we sold almost $12,000. The teachers we all able to select $75 worth of books, resource teachers $50 and the library $1,000. We will still have a profit of about $1,000 for the PTO. She thanked all the volunteers who helped during the week.

Community Donations- No report.

Community Service- Tiffany Bonnell reported they will be doing the mitten tree again this year. They will be collecting mittens, hats, socks and underwear. They will fill our schools need first then will send any extras to schools in the area. Tiffany deposited 228,000 pop tabs. $88 will be sent to the Ronald McDonald house.

Directory- Bonnie reported we will be going to the printer this week. Directories will go out by Thanksgiving.

Family Carnival- We still need a co-chairperson. If you like to plan and organize events please see Bonnie.

Field Day- No report.

Fund Raising-Shannon reported that we received $460 from Acapulco's. The November eat out fundraiser will be at Applebee's. She also said that the Small's donated a Limo. Shannon would like to have a raffle for dinner and a limo ride. Trees were also donated by Alcoa. They have been planted along the fence near Oak Grove Road.

Helping Hands- All teachers needing extra help have been fulfilled.

Hospitality- Tiffany Porter reported the cookies around the World were a success at the book fair Family Night. Their next project will be the Dare graduation.

Landscape- No report.

Library-No report.

Market Day-Jane Small said their volunteers have been a huge help and they really appreciate them. The Market Day numbers are down a little from last year. They had 10 pies donated for the Thanksgiving baskets. Cookie Dough sales will be next month. Bonnie encourages everyone to spread the work about Market Day!

Popcorn-Marci reported that popcorn will start this week. We will keep the price at 25 cents. She will also sell Twizzlers some months as a change.

Publications-No report.

Special Rewards-Kathi Wilson reported that they collected 22,000 box tops. The school will receive $2,200.

Spirit Store-No report.

Spirit Wear- Carol Mesker reported order forms have been sent out and are due November 9.

Student Incentives/AR parties-Ami Larrison thanked all who volunteered for the last AR party. The January party will be some type of performer/ show.

Sunshine- No report.

Web Site- Tonia Eissler is updating frequently.


Old Business
Bonnie reported that we will be finishing up the playground improvements soon. We will then start fundraising for the document cameras in January. She would like for Mr. Flener to come to the January meeting to give a demonstration.

New Business
Tiffany Porter asked about some type of shelves for the workroom to store the copy paper on. It is usually lying on the tables and it limits the amount of work space for volunteers and teachers. Mrs. McAtee has spoken to Mrs. Scales about the possibility of the Student Council purchasing this. Mrs. McAtee will look for one and she might need PTO help in purchasing depending on the cost.
